For sure you will agree knowing that Halong Bay is one of the world’s natural wonders where in you will find more than one thousand limestone karsts and islands. Its waters are host of a great variety of ecosystems like offshore corals reefs, freshwater swamp forest, mangrove forests, small freshwater lakes, and sandy beaches.
Their limestones have been eroded into a mature landscape of fengcong and fenglin karst features which were modified by sea invasion. There are 1,600 islands and islets of various sizes and shapes along the 120 kilometer coastline of Bai Chay Beach. Most of the islands are uninhabited and unaffected by a human existence because of their steep nature.
The extensive limestone caves represent three main types, the old phreatic caves formed below the water table of the time, the old karstic foot caves formed by lateral undercutting of cliffs at base level, and marine notch caves formed at sea level where rock structures are powerfully eroded and ultimately reduced to a wave cut platform.
For future the understanding of geoclimatic history and the nature of karst processes, these areas provide a unique and extensive reservoir of data.
